Audio Technica AT-VM95SP 78RPM SP Stereo Cartridge
The AT-VM95SP is designed specifically for playing 78 RPM SP records, which typically have monaural modulation. When using the AT-VM95SP cartridge, it's recommended to activate the "MONO ON" function on your standard Stereo Phono Preamplifier. This helps to minimise record surface noise and improve playback quality.
For professional archiving purposes, the AT-VM95SP can be used with a dedicated archiving phono preamplifier or equaliser that incorporates various functions to generate a mono signal from stereo inputs. These functions may include Mono L+R, Mono L, Mono R, or LR Variable Mix. This allows archivists to minimise noise and distortion by sampling the least damaged side of the grooves from old records.
VM95 Series - Styli Compatibility: Every cartridge's diamond stylus wears out over time. Here are the approximate lifespans for each type:
- Conical stylus: around 500 hours
- Elliptical stylus: around 300 hours
- Microlinear stylus: around 1000 hours
- Shibata stylus: around 800 hours
The VM95 Series cartridges feature interchangeable styli, allowing you to replace the stylus rather than purchasing a complete cartridge when the diamond wears out. Additionally, you can enjoy the flexibility of upgrading your cartridge with different stylus types.
The AT-VM95SP, along with the other models in the VM95 Series, utilises the same electromagnetic engine-body. Therefore, all six replacement styli are perfectly compatible:

AT-VM9E Series Compatibility with AT-XP Series DJ Cartridges: The electromagnetic engine-body of the XP-Series DJ cartridges is fully compatible with all replacement styli of the VM95 Series. However, the XP-Series cartridge delivers more output voltage than the VM95 Series, enhancing compatibility with phono inputs of Professional DJ Mixers.
The VM95 Series suspension design and compliances are optimised for audiophile reproduction, while the XP-Series suspension design is tailored for intensive DJ use, including manual cueing and back-cueing.
Conical Bonded (3mil) Stylus: The AT-VM95SP features a conical bonded stylus with a large curvature radius of 3 mil. This stylus is suitable for playing 78 RPM records from various eras.
No Use of Nuts: VM95 Series cartridges come with two M2.6 threaded inserts, allowing easy installation onto a tonearm or removable headshell without the need for nuts. Each cartridge includes one pair of 8mm M2.6 screws, one pair of 11mm M2.6 screws, and two plastic washers.

Please note that you must return each item in the same condition in which you received it. This means that new items must be returned new, unused and complete (including all accessories). Refunds for returned items that are not received in this condition, may be reduced.
